Position Overview

RENEW Northeast (RENEW) is hiring a new team member to advocate for electricity transmission expansion in New England to enable the development of clean energy within the region. The Director of Regulatory Affairs will be a key member of RENEW, involved in advocacy for a cleaner grid.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Promote policies in favor of coordinated regional transmission development with local, state, regional, and federal public officials, ISO New England (ISO-NE), and local communities.
  • Advocate for ISO-NE interconnection reforms including increased operating limits on transmission lines, and overall modernization of the transmission system.
  • Assist with planning public events at the state and community levels to promote the benefits of transmission system upgrades and adding clean energy resources.
  • Testify before state legislatures, prepare, and deliver presentations, conduct policy research, prepare comments for state and federal regulators, and attend stakeholder meetings at ISO-NE related to transmission and interconnection issues.
  • Outreach to RENEW members and other stakeholders, including organizing briefings and meetings. Some travel will be required to attend regulatory and legislative proceedings and conferences, engage with community leaders and members of the public, and participate in ISO-NE stakeholder meetings.

Required Education, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, engineering, economics, business, or a related field required.
  • 4+ years of renewable energy or electricity advocacy experience required.
  • Experience with wholesale energy markets and energy regulatory proceedings required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability building coalitions and collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Job Conditions

We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines.
We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $100,000- 125,000. At RENEW, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs. RENEW offers a retirement plan, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), PTO, and sick leave.
